So as most of you know, Minnesota is FU FU FREEZING.
The temperatures get down well below zero in the middle of winter.
The newscaster usually give two temperatures.
For as long as I can remember I thought it was the ACTUAL temperature, and the WIND SHIELD!
YES!
Wind Shield!
I thought it was the temperature you felt when you got into your car!
bahahaha!
I called it that all the time, and NO ONE ever corrected me!
The first time I seen it written out as WIND CHILL, it was a complete and total "DUH!" moment Obviously that makes a lot more sense!
So today when I got into the vehical after chipping away ice from the wind shield I had to chuckle at my past word mixup! :) But let me tell you, it really did feel like -10 below WIND SHIELD!

ReplyDeleteHow Cute! Negative degrees though, not cute. At all. I bitched and moaned after the game on Saturday because it was in the 50s. I cannot believe I survived the midwest for 12 years. 12 horrible years.

ReplyDeleteUntil my BFF was 16 and I finally corrected her, she always thought that a FLY SWATTER was called Flice Water. She asked me one day why it was called a Flice Water and after I stopped laughing, I corrected her.
LOL, that's awesome. "Wind Shield" or "Wind Chill," 10 below is too dang cold either way! :)

ReplyDeleteLaughing WITH you not AT you!!! I remember going to the mountains for the first time with a bunch of girls and seeing a sign that said: Bush Hogs ahead... We looked for them wild pigs for hours. Someone in town had to tell us it was not an animal it was tractor equipment....

ReplyDeleteLOL! I so used to think the same thing!! For reals. I think I was in college when I realized what they were really saying. I don't think I had paid much attention before then. Wind chill. Duh! Well, we haven't had any really cold WIND CHILLS or WIND SHIELDS yet here in Oklahoma, but they're in the forecast for this week! Our Thanksgiving day is going to be the coldest it's been so far this fall. I'm kind of looking forward to it! :)

ReplyDeleteYes...I live on the Western Shores of that wonderful body of water called Lake MI...the coldness like to sing and the snows like to yoddle but when those nasty winds from North invade I have only one thing to say...only 6 more months till Spring :-)

ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one. When I was younger I thought the same thing, because here in Colorado - we get two temperatures too. So I asked me dad how they got the temperature off the wind sheiled. Mind you, I was in high school :o)
